2024: The Year of LGBT+ Workers

Following UNISON’s campaigns of the Year of Disabled Workers in 2022 and the Year of Black Workers in 2023, the campaign for 2024 will be the Year of LGBT+ Workers.

At the LGBT+ UNISON conference in November, conversations took place about how much progress has been made in promoting and achieving equal rights. However, recently there has been an increase in prejudice and discrimination incited by government rhetoric and the far right adding fuel to it.

In a recent UNISON Magazine article, members spoke about their experiences and views on how we, as union branches, can further the rights of LGBT+ in the workplace.

“Our rights are deteriorating all over the place. We’re losing rights that we already had. The rise of the far right, the gender critical movements … all this rhetoric feels like we’re going backwards and if ever we needed a year, it’s now.”

As a branch, we would like to support members in creating their own LGBT+ self-organised group. We would like to hear from you about how we can support and ensure that members are able to have a forum.
