UNISON Service Group Elections (SGE)

UNISON is run for and by its members through its democratic committees consisting of members just like you. The SGE is elected every two years and the people you elect will make important decisions about the future of our union – so it’s important that as many members as possible vote and have their say.

Ballot paper(s) will soon be sent to members’ home address and an online ballot will be emailed to members’ email address. You will have the option to vote online or by post. Voting starts on the 22 April and closes on the 17 May. If you have not received a ballot by 1 May 2024, you should contact the ballot helpline operated by UNISONdirect on 0800 0 857 857.

What is the SGE?

The SGE is the committee that represents UNISON local government workers from across the UK and operates at a national level e.g. negotiating policy and pay.

Solihull UNISON Branch Committee has nominated the following West Midlands Local Government candidates:

Shazzia Rock – Women’s Seat

David Hughes – General Seat

Reasons for nominating Shazzia and David

Shazzia and David are both very active reps in their respective branches of Sandwell and Birmingham. They have taken part in action to improve the conditions and pay of workers. The cuts to local government have proven to be a disaster for people and that is why they are steadfast in their belief that public services should be protected.

They both best represent the values and principles of our branch. They believe that any union should be member-led so it represents the interests and needs of all workers in our communities. The ultimate aim is for our union to be organised, campaigning and fighting for change and social justice.
