Solihull Local Government Branch fund raising for OVOS

UNISON Solihull Branch raises £456 for Our Voice, Our Services through community cake sales.

The UNISON Branch Executive is delighted to announce the success of its recent community fundraising initiative in support of Our Voices, Our Services (OVOS), a vital council team that works to ensure children receiving support from Children’s Services have their voices heard and their views reflected in the services they receive.

As part of an agreed programme of community-focused fundraising, the branch has committed to raising funds for organisations linked to the council and our community. Over the coming year, OVOS has been selected as the chosen charity for this period. In addition to advocacy, OVOS organises community-based activities for children in the care of the council, as well as monthly groups that provide safe, supportive spaces for children and young people to connect and be heard.

In December, the branch organised a series of well-supported cake sales at Bluebell and Chelmund Place offices, alongside two further events at the Council House. These events were made especially memorable thanks to the outstanding contributions of colleagues and young people. Annie generously baked her legendary Victoria sponge, Martine created her wonderful winter themed cupcakes, and  Zoe treated everyone to her delicious lemon drizzle cake. Adding a particularly special touch, children from Chapters and Briars View baked beautiful cakes for the Council House sales. Rasheed Pendry, Director of Children’s Services, joined colleagues at the Council House to sample the cakes baked by the children, confirming they tasted just as wonderful as they looked.

The branch was thrilled to see so many colleagues come together to support the events, take part in the cake raffle, and contribute so generously. Special thanks go to the HR team, who donated their Christmas raffle funds to the cake sales.
