With the departure of David Williams, we are pleased to announce the appointment of Karen Moore as the new Branch Secretary. Karen previously served as Assistant Branch Secretary and brings a wealth of experience and commitment to her new role.
Karen has been a UNISON representative for many years and has held several positions within the branch, including Recruitment Officer and, more recently, as women’s officer. During her time based in the branch office, she has successfully completed qualifications in Employment Law and Health and Safety, further enhancing her skills and expertise to support our members. Prior to joining the branch office, Karen worked in Adult Social Care, providing her with valuable frontline experience.
Stepping into the role of Assistant Branch Secretary is Sam May. Sam has worked in Children’s Services for the past 21 years and became a UNISON representative when her team faced challenges related to caseloads. Since then, she has expanded her knowledge, particularly in Health and Safety, and has completed her TUC Health and Safety qualification and is the branch health and safety officer.
Karen and Sam have already demonstrated a strong working partnership, especially on health and safety initiatives within the branch. Their dedication and collaborative work have been formally recognized in November 2024, they received the UNISON West Midlands Health and Safety Award, followed by the TUC East and West Midlands Health and Safety Award in April 2025.
We look forward to their continued leadership and commitment in their new roles.
